World Bank staffer in DC diagnosed with swine flu

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A World Bank employee who travelled to Mexico has been diagnosed with swine flu in the first suspected case in the US capital, and a second test is being carried out, the bank said Thursday.

On Tuesday, an employee was "preliminarily diagnosed" with the new human swine flu virus, but he has since made a full recovery.

"The final diagnosis has to be confirmed by a second test performed by the Center for Disease Control, a process which is underway," the bank said in a statement.

The man is a Maryland resident who works at the Washington-based development lender, a bank official told AFP.

The man had travelled to Mexico on business in mid-April and returned to the office before officials knew about the swine flu outbreak.

The bank official said some 80 employees who were in contact with the man have been asked to work from home.
