Over the past couple of weeks several of my friends and readers have forwarded to me links to a pandemic home care manual available online.
Since I’ve been embroiled in a bit of a family medical crisis for weeks (which has now ended), I hadn’t really had time to look at it. Until now.
I’ve come away pretty impressed, and I think this would make a fine addition to every home’s emergency preparedness library.
Over at the Flu Wiki, DemFromCt (editor, and blogger on the Daily Kos) has an interview with one of this manual’s creators, Sandra Schwanberg.
This 81-page PDF file cover a lot more than just caring for the sick, it also has sections on establishing `communities of care’, laying in emergency supplies, general preparedness websites, even emergency cooking.
While a free download, the authors are set up to accept donations. If possible, you should consider supporting their work.
They obviously put a lot of time and effort into this.
Whether you go with this manual, or Dr. Grattan Woodson’s excellent offering available from his website, you really need to download, read, and then act on the recommendations provided in these booklets.
Our fall flu season is just around the corner, and most victims of this pandemic are going to have to be cared for in their homes.
Now is the time to get ready to deal with that eventuality.
