India: Assam has H5N1 in Poultry

Cooch Behar, Sept. 11: The district administration has issued an alert in the areas on the border with Assam from where an outbreak of avian flu was reported.

The administration has banned the entry of poultry, including eggs, from Assam through the checkpost at Baxirhat on NH31. Bird flu was detected at Bamundanga in Dhubri’s Agamoni block last week. “Three villages in Tufanganj subdivision — Debagram, Balabhut and Gopalirkuthi — are within a 3km radius of the affected areas in Assam. Five culling teams are on the standby to tackle any outbreak in the district,” said additional district magistrate (general), G. Kiran Kumar.
