Croatia Reports New Outbreak of Anthrax

CROATIA - Croatia's veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of Anthrax in cattle and swine at a farm located in Sunja in Sisak-Moslavina County.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports that the outbreak was first observed on 12 November, and later on confirmed on 22 November. Following this, OIE received an immediate notification on Friday last (25 November), noting that the causal agent of the outbreak is a virus known as Bacillus anthracis.

According to the report, a total of seven cows and six pigs were found susceptible to the disease, but no cases were identified. No deaths were recorded and no animals were destroyed as a result of the outbreak.

The OIE have not been able to deduce the cause of the outbreak.
