Nepal: Nawalparasi at high risk of bird flu

Nawalparasi district is said to be at the higher risk of bird flu, among other Terai districts of Nepal.

At an interaction programme on bird flu organized here Tuesday, Dr Uttam Acharya of District Livestock Service Office, Nawalparasi informed the district has been placed at high risk of bird flu when birds and poultry products have been imported to the district from bordering area of India.

The office has conducted various programme to create public awareness on bird flu and put high alert in bordering area, he said.

There are around three hundred poultry farms along the border area, which have been operated without obtaining license, he further said, adding that it should be monitored in a bid to prevent the possible outbreak of bird flu.
