S. Africa: Heavy Damage Due to #H5N1 #Birdflu

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of South Africa on 22/12 for bird flu outbreak in the country in 2011 has led the South African economy hundreds of millions of dollars of damage due to temporary suspension of poultry exports, especially Ostrich meat products, one of the key livestock products of this African nation.

South Africa has suspended export of poultry products, especially ostrich meat to the EU market.

According to the Customs Authority of South Africa, in 2010, before the occurrence of avian influenza, exports of poultry products to give the economy hundreds of millions of dollars, mostly from the chicken and ostrich.

However, so far the Health Ministry said South Africa has not found someone to die from infection with avian influenza virus (H5N1) in the year.

In a separate incident, on 22/12, the government of Taiwan (China) claimed to have destroyed nearly 1,000 pigs after foot and mouth disease broke out again.

This is the biggest round of destruction in Taiwan for over 14 years.

Agency disease control of animals and plants in Taiwan, said the pigs were destroyed on earlier this week at a farm in the southern city of Tainan after symptoms of foot and mouth disease.

However, the government has not yet found the symptoms of foot and mouth disease in cattle bred in 11 farms around the above position within a radius of 3 km. /.
