India: H1N1 55-yr-old woman dies, swine flu toll nine

Rukmini Raut (55) of Lonikand in Haveli taluka, who had been ailing from March 7, succumbed to the H1N1 virus on Sunday. Rukmini is the ninth victim of swine flu in a month.

Dr Milind Jawale, medical officer at Pimpri-Chichwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said she was admitted to Global Hospital in Pimpri on March 7. He said she had not responded to treatment.

District civil surgeon Dr Vinayak More said there is another woman on ventilator support at Aditya Birla Hospital and four others in the Pune Municipal Corporation area. With the National Institute of Virology (NIV) being shut on Sunday, officials said the report on new cases would be available on Monday. Till date, 125 had been infected by the virus but a majority had been treated.
