Vietnam: Emergence of new avian influenza virus

As foreign contractors No. 213/2012 information, the Department of Animal Health (MARD) has officially announced that it has detected a new H5N1 avian influenza virus group: Affiliates 2.3.2.1 (group C).

According to the Department of Animal Health, recently, avian influenza began to recur in a number of provinces and cities, mainly in the North and North Central. Nguyen Van Tung, deputy director of the Central Veterinary Diagnostic Center (DAH) said: "The virus has a very broad distribution and fast in a very short time all the way from South North to Central. In terms of classification called the C group, but relatively close to group A, but do not know the exact origin of this new group of viruses spread from. We are preparing the next job to conduct new vaccine and vaccination experiments identified ".
According to Tung, experts predict genetic group of the new virus is also close to the group A than group B, so we are using the vaccine still capable of protection.
About the dangers the 2.3.2.1 C virus group, Mr Tung said: "Basically, all of the avian influenza virus H5N1 is always dangerous, because they have the ability to spread to humans. Particularly for group 2.3.2.1 C, where dangerous levels can not be determined, because we are continuing to do the next test ".  Meanwhile, according to Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department (MARD), this virus group can enter the country by way of smuggled Chinese poultry culling in recent times.
