Agitation warning

BHAKTAPUR: Poultry farmers in the district have threatened to launch an agitation if the government does not increase compensation that it provides for destroying birds and bird-related stuffs. At a meeting held on Wednesday, Bird Flu Victims’ Committee demanded compensation amount equal to production cost of culled chickens. Committee coordinator Ganesh Kuwar said declaration of Bhaktapur as a crisis-hit zone showed the government’s inability to control bird flu. “We have no option but to launch an agitation as the government is apathetic towards our demand,” he said. Tulsiram Dhukhwa, chairman of the Poultry Farmers’ Association (Bhaktapur), said the government’s inability to control the flu outbreak and declaration of the district as a crisis-hit zone will hit the economy. He sought adequate compensation to affected farmers.
